Product Description

TF-5 is an extraordinary fixer for both paper and film.

* Processing time of only 30 seconds for resin-coated prints, 60 seconds for fiber-based prints, with no hypo clearing agent necessary.

* No stop bath necessary. Just use water rinse after developing.

* Non-hardening. Excellent for use with prints to be toned or re-touched.

* It is a near neutral fix that changes the pH of the film or paper from alkaline to near neutral, unlike TF4 in which the film or paper stays at an alkaline pH value.
 * The only rapid-fixer system that allows the print to be completely fixed without impairing the rapidity of the wash.

* No image bleaching. All conventional fixers act as reducers. This means that the longer the material is left in the fixer, the more image silver is destroyed. This can only have bad effects on the image, whether it is a print or a negative. Conventional sodium thiosulfate (rapid) fixers suffer from this defect especially. The problem is eliminated in TF-5, which may offer slightly richer maximum blacks as a result.

  1. A Great Fixer For Film Too 5 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Dec 2024

I use TF-5 Archival Fix for film. It is a fast and easy to use fixer that can be reused. And I am well pleased with the rich in tone negatives I get when developing black and white films such as Tri-X, TMax, Film Photography Project, Lomography, Ilford, Kentmere, in fact all the films I have developed in caffenol.

  2. A versatile fixer 4 Star Review

Posted by on 9th Apr 2024

TF-5 Archival fixer works effectively and and quickly on films and papers, and it saves the need for a hypo clearing agent. It works well with ferricyanide bleaching and selenium toning.

As a personal choice, I tend to wash prints longer after fixing, just to ensure that all the fixer has been cleared before toning.

  3. Long lasting, low odor and convenient! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 1st Feb 2023

I use this fix in my Nova Slot processor and love it! Almost no smell and it lasts a very long time. Liquid formula means no powder mess when mixing, and you can mix as much or as little as you need. Can’t recommend it enough!

  4. low odor fixer that is gentle on print surface 5 Star Review

Posted by on 3rd Mar 2022

I print on fiber based paper, and switching to TF-5 fixer has improved the darkroom experience considerably! First, I need only water for a stop bath, which eliminates the odor of acetic acid, and the prints do not go through a drastic change in pH, as this fixer is neutral. I don't need to be so careful to limit time spent in fixer, as there is no bleaching from longer time soaking. Prints tone well in selenium because they are not hardened. Wash time is shorter as well. TF-5 has made an enormous improvement in my time spent in the darkroom.

  5. Fast fixing, tiny amonia odor and short wash times. 5 Star Review

Great stuff! Really cuts down on water use for both film and paper washing. Easy to mix from liquid; mix as much as you like with proper ratios unlike powder which as to be all or none.

  6. Works as advertised. I love this fixer. 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Oct 2021

I've been using TF-5 with film for three years. Making stock is easy: I fill the provided liter bottle 3 times with distilled water for 3-1 stock in a gallon jug. Distilled water reduces the fixer's odor (to almost nil). This fixer has made developing film so easy. I use FA-1027 to develop, then tap water to stop development. I fix 7 minutes for Delta/TMax. I keep my gallon of TF-5 stock for one year. Washing after TF-5 is so quick: fill and invert 5, 10, 20 times, done. Great results!

  7. Quality fixer for archival work 5 Star Review

This is an easy to use fixer for archival fiber base work. It washes out quickly and is economical to use.

  8. Easier to use 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Oct 2020

The old TF-4 tended to settle out in the container and was a pain to shake and remix before making stock solution. In a big processing run this could be frustrating.

I just finished processing over 500 sheets of 8x10 using TF-5. It was very easy to mix up fresh solution as I needed it without disrupting the workflow. I use two Jobo machines running in tandem to process ten sheets per run. So time counts...

  9. Great Product! 5 Star Review

I've started developing sheet film in a daylight tank and using TF-5 is easy and speeds the process with great results.

  10. TF-5 is the best fix for me 5 Star Review

Posted by on 12th Dec 2017

I returned to film 6 years ago. 3 years ago I found TF-5 and have used it ever since. In quantity, as I just received my second 4 gallon delivery in that 3-year time span. Mixed with distilled water is has nearly no odour. I am sensitive. I use it for film and SG paper. T-Max needs more time. But it goes clear for me.
